Great read!

For anyone that is interested in the 1960's Merseybeat era this book should be in their collection. It's not your normal 'how we became rock stars' it's a humorous walk through 5 years of association between the groups members and their 'roadies' as told by each of them, plus a little of 'before and after' in their lives. It visits many of the clubs and pubs of the era and some of the stories are more than worth the price of this book. Buy it, you will not be disappointed!

The Abstracts - A 1960's Liverpool Group That Time Almost Forgot
By Irma R. Carey on April 2, 2014
This is a clear, concise read with interesting first hand knowledge of the British Rock movement in London England during the 1960's. There are several little stories by the members themselves putting a personal touch through the band members eyes to make up this book. If you are a classic British Rock fan, you will enjoy this book immensely.

The Abstracts - A Reader's Review
By Raymond David on June 5, 2015
This is a good read and an entertaining story of a closely knit group of musicians who were also very good friends and enjoyed a successful five years playing a variety of bookings at many leading establishments far and wide during the Merseybeat era of the 60s. There can't have been many groups around then who can claim such a lengthy association.
The book is well presented and the contributions by, not only the group members themselves but also the roadies, make a nostalgic record of a group that undoubtedly became one of the most popular Merseyside outfits of the time, offering an impressive repertoire from a proficient, versatile line-up.
The story is nicely rounded off on a personal note from Jackie James who reminisces about the group's relationship with the Victoria Rooms in Oswestry where the Abstracts featured on many occasions; a testimony to their popularity.

This book is the story of a down-to-earth Merseybeat group from the 1960s, told by the band members, their associates, and their fans. The Abstracts weren't big stars, yet they played most of the venues that are well known to fans of Merseybeat music. There is no John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Gerry Marsden, or Billy J. Kramer in the group. The Abstracts were just five Liverpool lads who had a lot of fun performing. This book is justified for its historical value and it captures the "feel" of the 1960s. Besides being a "fun read," the book is loaded with dozens of performance photographs and illustrations of memorabilia such as venue tickets, newspaper clippings and advertisements, and the group's performance diary. If only other groups would have kept such a fantastic record of their activities. As a fan of Merseybeat music for over 50 years, I highly recommend The Abstracts - A 1960's Liverpool Group That Time Almost Forgot!
